Starting works on its largest St Helens site to date, leading regional contractor HMS, will build 77 new homes at Rutland Street creating a fully affordable housing development in the centre of the town.
Building 3 2-bedroom, 12 3-bedroom and 8 4-bedroom houses along with 40 1-bedroom and 14 2-bedroom apartments, HMS has officially broken ground on site – with the aim of completing the scheme by Summer 2025.
With all homes available via Shared Ownership or Affordable Rent, Rutland Street is the 19th affordable New Build scheme the team has mobilised for Torus Developments and will see the team tip it’s running total of homes delivered over the 700 mark.
Discussing Rutland Street, Construction Director, John Barrow, said: “This site signifies so much for HMS. Not only is it the largest St Helens site we have mobilised, it also marks a huge milestone for our New Build workstream. Being in the process of delivering over 700 homes is an outstanding testament to the hard work our team does day-in, day-out, to build homes that people love, and which contribute to addressing key issues impacting our communities - often exacerbated by issues such as increasing prices and access to good quality, affordable housing options.
“Over the years, we have worked closely with Torus Developments to grow as a contractor of choice and to build homes that meet the needs of people who live and work in the region and Rutland Street is the latest in an increasingly long line of projects we are thrilled to be working on. I know the difference this scheme will make to its future residents and the community and can’t wait to see it take shape.”
Continuing, Torus Developments Director of Development and Sales, Steve Alcock, said: “St Helens is a key area of focus for us now and in the coming years and we’re excited to be breaking ground on our latest scheme in the area. Rutland Street will offer opportunities for people getting on the property ladder and will provide homes suitable for first time buyers, families and those looking to downsize, creating a thriving, multi-generational community many people will be able to afford.
“Looking at the numbers, it is so impressive to see just how far HMS has come in a relatively short space of time and how they are able to consistently deliver for Torus Developments. Rutland Street will become such an asset to St Helens and I can’t wait the see it take shape over the next two years to create a place people will be able to live and thrive.”
