Ensuring the completion of a 24-unit site in Prescot, HMS is thrilled to be celebrating handing over its latest new build scheme, Brookside Close, to housing group Torus and to be marking a milestone that was once in jeopardy.
As handovers go, the completion of Brookside Close is especially pertinent considering its future once hung in the balance as original contractor on the scheme, Melrose Construction, went into administration during the build. However, thanks to HMS’ tenacity and ability to react to ever-changing market conditions, the £1.7 million project is now over the line and set to bring 24 Affordable Rent properties to Prescot.
Not only a positive indictment of HMS’ ability to deliver under pressure, Brookside Close is the first site the team have mobilised in Prescot so to complete it marks another step in its journey to further expand its New Build programme into new areas.
Discussing Brookside Close’s completion, Construction Director, John Barrow, said: “This is one of a number of projects HMS has taken over following the collapse of other contractors and it makes me immensely proud of the team when they are able to step up and deliver projects that would otherwise have been left hanging in the balance. It has been a difficult few years for the sector in the wake of COVID-19, but Brookside Close, and schemes like it really reaffirm our position as a strong, stable contractor of choice and ultimately, a team that will get the job done.”
Anna James, Torus Developments Director of Development & Aftercare, continued: “It’s fantastic to see Brookside Close completed and ready for people to move in – given its history, there were moments when we thought we’d never see this day – so we are over the moon to finally be here! HMS stepped in and have built something we’re all proud of and I’m thrilled that 24 families now have a secure, modern, high-quality home to live in.”
Councillor Kai Taylor said: “Prescot South Councillors warmly welcome the new affordable rent Torus properties just off Molyneux Drive. There is a significant lack of 1- and 2-bedroom properties within this area and this will hopefully address the back log of residents waiting for affordable accommodation. Councillor Jo Burke and I have visited the site are very impressed with the quality and design of the properties.”
