Committed social investor, HMS, this week gifted charitable organisation, Torus Foundation £2.2 million in a further bid to support its important community work.
Since amalgamating with the Torus Group in January 2019, HMS has reinvested over £22 million back into the region by supporting numerous initiatives and projects which have helped people into work, boosted their health and wellbeing, improved their digital skills, and allowed them to connect with others in our communities.
As one of the fastest growing contractors in the region, HMS’ dedication to the local community it serves has grown too. Alongside providing local employment opportunities and investing in its supply chain partners grassroots community projects, HMS ensures it continues to reinvest its commercial profits into Torus Foundation so the team can continue to deliver outcomes such as:
- Helping over 1,000 people into employment
- Supporting over 500 people into training
- Working with key partners to run health and wellbeing activities for over 12,000 people
- Delivering over 1,000 sessions to help over 1,800 people build skills and confidence online
- Engaging over 1,000 older people in wellbeing activities
- Unlocking over £4 million in financial gain for over 3,000 customers through Torus Foundation’s financial services*

Discussing HMS’ latest gift to Torus Foundation, Managing Director, Paul Worthington, said: “Transforming communities – physically through the works we deliver day-to-day but also through the projects we fund – has always been central to how HMS does business. However, against a backdrop of a national cost of living crisis and the enduring impact COVID-19 has had on our communities, our ongoing support of Torus Foundation activities has never been more vital.
“Together with Torus Foundation, we have already delivered so many positive outcomes for our communities and I hope this latest gift further contributes to the fantastic work Torus Foundation delivers and allows the team to reach even more people.”
Kate Shone, Managing Director, Torus Foundation, “We are grateful for the hard work of HMS colleagues which has resulted in another incredible gift from HMS. The ongoing support from HMS is invaluable and very much needed.
“Many people living across communities right now are facing challenges like never before. The gift will be directly invested into four key areas; helping Torus customers make the most of their money, supporting people to build key skills and maximise opportunities in the labour market, addressing priority health and wellbeing needs, as well as our youth offer which is in high demand.
“With support such as this from HMS, the Foundation will continue to reach more people with a range of opportunities, enabling communities to thrive and become stronger in this challenging environment.”
